My last motor had a 4 blade mechanical fan. On this one I decide to try this 7 blade clutch one that I found. The clutch is new. So far I've had no cooling issues.

The manifold on the motor I took out had provisions for a divorce choke on it. The new manifold didn't, so I took one of the Q-jets that I had with an electric choke and re-built it. Some people don't like Q-jets, but the 700R4 and Q-jet is how I get 20 mpg at 75 most of the time. I haven't run this motor much, but on a recent trip from my town to Moab, UT. I filled up here and then there and got 23 mpg at 70 mph. Granted this was pure highway driving except for about 5 miles through the one town between here and there. If this new motor keeps getting near this I'll be real happy. Over there I put about 150 miles driving around town and out to Canyonlands and Arches National parks and stopped at a lot of the view points. My mileage for that 150 miles was a little over 17 mpg.

I cleaned the whole carb by soaking it in carb cleaner and then plugged the spots on the bottom where they are know to leak.
.......................After mounting the carb I had to work on the attach point for the 700R4 TV cable. This is critical if you want the transmission to shift right and live. I laid out the angles and distance for the attach point from the centerline of the bell-crank on this piece of cardboard with a protractor and then cut the linkage and re-welded it in the ..................

I also made an aluminum plate to cover up the opening on the side of the manifold that I'm not using.

Finally I put the motor into the truck. I spent way more time on it than I though I was going to.
